The underlying concept of the seminar is to provide all students (the entire academic spectrum) with timely information relative to the various career paths, employment opportunities, and education options (i.e., 1 year, 2 year, and 4 year schools) they can expect to encounter upon graduation from high school and getting students to think about their future and commit to excellence. 

A major portion is devoted to discussing common courtesy and the power of a compliment and the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions, as well as maintaining a positive attitude and high self-esteem. Students feel good about themselves at the conclusion.

The presentation can be readily tailored to coincide with your school's class periods, optimum time one-hour or two-hour periods. It is delivered in lecture form, highlighting the four career keys indicated in the presentation:

The presentation covers the following topics: 

Key # 1: Need Fulfillment 

  • Pursuing job satisfaction. 

  • Performing a self-assessment to determine individual strengths and weaknesses.

  • Building a career upon one's strengths. 

Key #2: The Art of Establishing Meaningful Goals

  • Determining emotional goals (long-range personal objectives one wishes to accomplish). 

  • Identifying practical goals (short-range objectives through which one attains emotional goals). 

Key #3: Attitude-Maintaining a Positive Self-Image 

  • How we see ourselves-it's reflective of how others see us. 

  • Reaffirmation of one's self-worth, "I will succeed". 

  • Winners attract winners. 

  • High self-esteem - respect for others predicated on respect for oneself. 

Key #4: The Information Gathering Process

  • Seeking as much information as possible from the maximum number of sources (i.e. teachers, guidance counselors, and individuals employed in one's projected career field). 

  • Making comparisons between the various types of higher educational institutions, length of schooling, and educational costs. 

  • Objectively determining which type of academic program, if any, is best suited for the individual to pursue. Examples: small vs. large schools, public vs. private schools, short term career/intensive vs. traditional liberal arts, as well as visiting schools of interest, talking with students and instructors for objectivity as well as admissions people.

At this juncture, the presentation focuses upon the career fields currently offering the greatest employment opportunities: 

  • High Technology 
  • Allied Health Care 
  • The Business Sector 

Highlights of these three fastest growing U.S. industries emphasize the numerous paths which may be followed in pursuit of a rewarding career. 

Seminar Conclusion

  • If time permits after covering the above topics, a question and answer period is conducted.
